The old Furness Gliding Propriety Ltd back in the 1930's. This became the Lakes Gliding Club by the mid 50's. These photos are from Brian Stevens. Brian is the son of one of the clubs founding members Bill (William) Stevens who built and flew his own glider to his own design. They record the early days of the club based on Kirkby Moor with some showing flights from Birkrigg Common. Peter R intends to scan in his family collection of early black and white photos to complement Brian's, these will be put on the website in the near future.
