Charges

Gliding generally is inexpensive compared to other air sports and gliding at the Lakes is inexpensive compared to other UK clubs. A copy of the membership form can be downloaded, printed off and posted to the Club Secretary. Or fill it in and bring it with you, plus a cheque as appropriate.

Our current charges from 1st April 2012 are:-

Notes: with new charges for 2012/13

• It is usual for Members to keep a float in their account to cover flying costs as it minimises the administration work
• BGA subscription (capitation fee) 2012/2013 is £27
• Glider Hire per Day Sat, Sun or Bank Holiday, 2 hours flying whether flown or not
• Glider Hire per Day all other days, normal club flying rates if flown
• Private owner facility fee includes trailer parking. Fee charged after 1 month
• Joining Fee, nil
• Junior or Student is defined as under 18 years or in full time education
•  With your trial flight you get 28 days membership, (56 days for Junior or Student members), which allows you to fly at fixed rates for the next month in order to help you to really find out if gliding is the sport for you. Flights in the 28 day membership period will be at a fixed price of £45 to 2000ft and £70 to 3000ft. If the flights last more than 30 minutes they will be charged for the soaring time over 30 minutes at normal club rates, currently 40p per minute.

• The Starter training Package is valid for 12 months from purchase, includes 6 launches to 2000ft and a minimum of 3 months membership of the Lakes Gliding Club. Your membership starts on the day you take your first flight and will continue until you have completed your 6^th flight or the 3 months has elapsed. As per the Voucher, should you wish to have an aerotow to 3000ft you will be charged an additional £25 on the day. If the flight lasts more than 30 minutes you will be charged for the soaring time over 30 minutes at normal club rates, currently 40p per minute. Once you have completed your 6 flight Starter Package we hope you will now be enthusiastic enough to continue flying with us. This will be at normal club rates.

• Annual membership entitles you to use the club facilities and to receive instruction and includes full social membership for spouse and children.
• The membership year runs from 1st April. A full years' membership is payable upon joining with a pro-rata reduction given upon renewal at the following April.
• Reciprocal membership is available to members of other BGA gliding clubs. We charge you whatever your club would charge us as a reciprocal member. (i.e. free to those clubs who do not charge a reciprocal membership)
• For the specialist, aero tows are currently £2.83 per chronological minute or £1.70 per tacho minute. They are subject to change as fuel costs rise and fall.
• Life membership, this is now only available as an Honorary Membership in recognition of services to the Club
• Old life members now pay full membership fee plus capitation fee
• Fuel (Avgas) is only available to Associate Power & Full members at purchase cost plus 7.5%. Ask the Treasurer for today's price.
• Light Aircraft owners who do not wish to fly gliders but who wish to make use of the clubs other facilities will be entitled to an ‘Associate Power Membership
• Group trial flight discounts apply for groups of 6 or more. Discounts of 10% apply to the current price of a Trial Lesson Voucher
