Club News 1993

December 1993-January 1994

The weather must have been bad judging by the good time we've had recently, particularly at Pocklington's Two Seater Competition where the saga of our new club mascot, Mr Blobby, proved to be more exciting than the flying! (Lakes 4, Burn 3?) Our Fun-week was aptly named, the last night barbecue especially!

We recently celebrated the 80th Birthday of our most senior member, Cecil Batty, with a surprise party. Ces joined the club in 1945 and has been a valuable, jovial member ever since.

Flying achievements include gold height for Keith Butterfield, silver distance and badge for Graham Sturgeon and a bronze badge for Alan Dennis. Keith and Graham took the Capstan on its 'annual' cross-country, 35km this year! Peter Redshaw flew to Pocklington.

Blackpool & Fylde finally came for the picture. It was only away six days before it was heroically retrieved by Graham Sturgeon on a fine wave day. The same day saw silver heights for Alan Dennis and Brian Dalton.

May Day saw the first 300k triangle from the club; but Peter Redshaw needed new LS-6 to do it! Rod Murfitt went to Sutton Bank via Rufforth. Peter Lewis (CFI) made it to kendal!

On his annual trip to Minden, Nevada, Peter Craven was thwarted on his way to a potential altitude record by Reno ATC at 35,200'. Just as well really since he only had a 30k barograph - Unlucky!

Look out for the recently renovated LGC Mobile Barn (T-49 Trailer) complete with mural at the Two Seater Comp.
